These past weeks have seen Kathy busily supporting our community's wider arts community in the Nederland Middle Senior High School production of Jekyll and Hyde. She is the Assistant Director, with primary responsibilities for costuming and as she says, "backstage 'mum' to these fabulously talented young people."
Each of the two weeks of the production sees four shows, Thursday evening through Saturday evening.
This is a major musical event for our community, a dark, complex story presented with intensity, fastidious attention to detail, deep commitment and more than anything else, raw talent. We went to see it last Saturday night, and I found myself spellbound. Within minutes of the opening notes I forgot that these are the same young people I see at the B&F Market, at church, on the bus. They truly became their characters, all the more remarkable given the truly literary nature of the story. The young women singing the two lead female roles had the audience--and me--swooning to the beauty of their voices, the heart they conveyed.
This is clearly a production with a tremendous amount of coaching, directing, advising, support from our entire community. Kathy has been right at the center of that, and we at the Palette Gallery are proud of her for her contributions.
